Key features of Kantha embroidery:
- Pashmina Wool: This luxurious fiber comes from the undercoat of Himalayan goats. The Changthangi goat, found in Ladakh, yields the finest quality Pashmina, also known as cashmere.
- Angora Rabbit Wool: Soft and fluffy, Angora wool is renowned for its heat-trapping and moisture-wicking properties. Due to its delicate nature, it's often blended with other fibers.
- Mohair Wool (Angora Goat Wool): Angora goats in Jammu and Kashmir produce lustrous mohair fibers, perfect for draping fabrics like scarves and stoles.
- Lambswool: Derived from the first shearing of a baby sheep, lambswool is exceptionally soft, hypoallergenic, and wrinkle-resistant. Its rarity makes it a premium choice.
- Cashmere: Originating from Kashmir, cashmere is a luxurious, lightweight fabric with a natural crimp. Its softness and scarcity contribute to its high cost.
MERINO WOOL
Imported from Australia and New Zealand, merino wool offers exceptional temperature regulation. Its natural fibers trap air for warmth in cold weather and wick away moisture to keep you cool in warmer conditions.

SILK (Indian silk)
Murshidabad, in West Bengal, is India’s second-largest traditional silk-producing district, with a rich history dating back to the 17th century. Kassimbazar was a significant silk-trading hub for British merchants.
Silk, a delicate and soft fiber, is produced by silkworms to create their cocoons. The cocoons are covered with sericin, a protein.
Types of Silk
- Mulberry Silk: Obtained from mulberry silkworms, this is the most common type of silk. It's known for its smoothness, uniformity, and delicate texture.
- Endi or Eri Silk (Ahimsa Silk): Produced from silkworms that feed on castor plant leaves, this silk has a woolly texture and a thicker feel. It's often called "Ahimsa silk" as the silkworms are not harmed during the harvesting process.
- Matka Silk: Made from mulberry silk without the degumming process, it has a rough texture and a dull appearance.
- Raw Silk or Resham: One of the most delicate natural fabrics, raw silk has an iridescent sheen due to its unique weave. It's made from the cocoons' protective layers without the degumming process.
- Tassar Silk: Derived from silkworms that feed on oak leaves, tassar silk has a slubby texture and a natural golden color.
- Murshidabad Silk: Made from fine mulberry silk, Murshidabad silk is renowned for its quality.
- Muga Silk: This unique silk, found only in India, has a golden-yellow hue and is known for its extreme durability and lustrous texture.
- Wild Silk: Produced by silkworms that live in forests, wild silk can be tassar, Eri, or Muga. It's generally more durable but has a rougher texture than cultivated silk.
